Express Entry Fall 2016 Changes And Consequences

Express Entry fall 2016 changes are indeed beneficial for foreign workers and international students with Canadian education.

Crucial changes to Express Entry system are expected to come into effect on November 19, 2016. The changes will be made with the aim of attracting prospective immigrants to Canada, including foreign workers and International students with Canadian education.

According to Fall 2016 Express Entry Changes:

“Immigrants with skills and experience are able to quickly contribute to the Canadian economy and society, helping create jobs, spur innovation and strengthen diversity in our communities.”

Ministerial Instructions for Express Entry changes include granting points for workers with LMIA-exempt work permits for certain job offers; providing additional points to candidates with Canadian education; and time extensions for applications for permanent residence.

The consequences of Express Entry fall 2016 changes:

1) Based on Citizenship and Immigration Canada recent update, Express Entry changes are made on a continuous basis to improve Canadian Immigration System.

“Supporting Canada’s Global Skills Strategy, the changes will help better attract some of the best minds in the world, including former international students, experienced professionals and talented workers who will strengthen Canada’s competitiveness in the global marketplace.”

It means that there is a high probability for further changes within a system to make it more responsive to the emerging needs of immigrants. As a result, the changes implemented on November 19, 2016 might become the initial step in a series of future amendments.

From the perspective of potential immigrants, the frequent changes to the system make it difficult to follow the new rules and adapt to them. Thus, it is recommended to stay up-to-date with the latest upgrades to the Canadian immigration system and have a proactive approach in terms of selecting the way to immigrate to Canada. Still, a candidate can always get help from licensed immigration representatives, who are entitled to provide clients with the most recent information and the best options complying with new requirements.

2) Eliminating the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is seen as the most positive change in the Express Entry system, which will benefit foreign workers as well as Canadian businesses. As reported by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the LMIA is considered as the major drawback in the Express Entry system by some businesses:

“A total of 70% of major Canadian companies surveyed recently said that changes to the LMIA process have had a negative impact on their ability to recruit skilled workers through the economic immigration system.”

Consequently, it should become easier for talented and experienced foreign workers to immigrate to Canada when the changes come into force.

Important Note: LMIA holders will also continue to be awarded points for a job offer.

3) Without a doubt, the additional points for students and graduates who had completed study program(s) in Canada are advantageous for the particular candidates and increase their competitiveness in the Express Entry pool.

4) Starting from November 19, 2016, the candidates for immigration will experience the increase of CRS points awarded to them. However, the candidates without a job offer might notice having higher number of points after LMIA-based job offers were decreased up to 550 points.
